About

Appalachian offers a major in Supply Chain Management to prepare professionals who can contribute to organization success through various aspects of supply chain management – including procurement, sourcing, logistics, manufacturing, distribution and quality management.

With the increasing complexity and globalization of supply chains, the demand for supply chain professionals is growing. Many industries are reporting significant shortages in talent, and this program will prepare you to help fill these economic needs.

After Graduation

Employment: Recent employers include Lowe’s Home Improvement, CGI, Reynolds America, Transportation Insight, Sygenta, Georgia Pacific, Amazon, AON Hewitt, Shurtape Technologies, TDL, Lockten, TIAA CREF, Red Classic, Camelot 3PL Software, Target and Ryder, CH Robinson and Deloitte.

Graduate School: Some students choose to stay and complete Appalachian’s MBA degree in one additional year.

Engagement Outside the Classroom

Appalachian Supply Chain Club (ASCC): ASCC offers members a chance to interact with industry professionals, while promoting career and professional development with networking and community involvement. Sponsored by the Charlotte Chapter of ASCM - Association for Supply Chain Management.
Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society: Membership in this group is the highest international recognition a student in business can receive in an undergraduate or master’s program at an AACSB accredited school.
Sigma Chi Mu Tau: Sigma Chi Mu Tau is a national honor society that recognizes academic merit and encourages leadership, ethical behavior and commitment to high standards in the pursuit of supply chain management excellence.

Global Learning

Global Learning is a priority for Appalachian State University. Students are encouraged to increase their knowledge of global issues, regions and cultures through any of Appalachian’s 100-plus international courses and events, befriending Appalachian’s 170-180 international students, participating in a study abroad, or pursuing an international service-learning or internship experience.

Business Career Services offers consultation to all business majors on choosing a career, preparing for interviews and exploring internships and employment.
The Appalachian Supply Chain Club offers student members opportunities to interact with industry professionals, while promoting career and professional development with networking and community involvement. Students who become members of ASCC are also student members of the following global professional societies: ASCM, CSCMP and ISM.
The SCM program recognizes the value of real-world experience. Therefore, students are strongly encouraged to participate in an internship.
Students have an opportunity to obtain their Six Sigma Green Belt Certification after completing the Six Sigma and Quality Management course.
Selected students participate in the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) Annual Conference and the Institute for Supply Management Carolinas - Virginia (ISM-CV) Student Case Competition
This program has a 92% job placement rate. Projected growth for supply chain management careers is consistently growing (over 20% through 2020 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics). Entry-level salaries are among the highest of all business disciplines.
Study abroad trips are led by department faculty. Classes have recently visited India, Costa Rica, and others.

At Appalachian State University, students in the Walker College of Business’ Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management learn to drive industry initiatives that develop customer satisfaction and retention, contribute to company profits and build connections with suppliers, distributors and the community. Students majoring in marketing may select a concentration in general marketing, digital marketing or sales. Students majoring in supply chain management (SCM) learn about logistics, operations, strategic sourcing, process improvement strategies and supply chain technologies, enabling them to compete in the global marketplace and help future employers reduce costs, improve profits and expand their markets.
